This mayor route connects Casablanca, the economic capital and the road of Agadir. Marrakech has always been at the crossroads of trade between the north and the south due to its strategic position. In the 11th century the Almoravides coming from the Sahara at the head of a powerful army, arrived in the heart at the plain of Haouz and were immediately captivated by the site. They decided that the future city of Marrakech would be located at the centre of wide range of traffic lines connecting caravans' trails from Niger, crossing the Atlas before departing in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea harbors and continuing to widen even until today.
